Mary Power Cooney’s Theatrics

From 3.15pm

Mary Power-Cooney’s Theatrics is based at Naas’s fantastic Moat Theatre.

The theatre group was set up in 2001 to introduce young children to poetry and play-acting. Over the years, it has metamorphosed into a theatrical tour de force. Thousands of children have been stage struck as a result of the opportunities they have been given to take to the boards and perform in their town’s beautiful theatre.

After-school drama workshops are held weekly on Tuesday afternoons in the Moat Theatre as follows:

Tuesday

  • 3.15pm-4.15pm :  Junior, Senior & 1st Class students
  • 4.20-5.20pm:   2nd, 3rd and 4th Class students
  • 5.30-6.30pm:  5th and 6th Class and 1st and 2nd Year students

These workshops explore drama in a fun way using a proven mix of improvisation, theatre games, scripted scenes, process drama, song and dance. Yes, everyone is catered for! And yes, the performance is a highlight of every year.

Summer Camps

Mary is excited to offer another season of drama and musical theatre summer camps at The Moat Theatre in July! For more details and to register, visit Mary’s website.

The Moat Writers

11.00am

The Moat Writers is a writing collective based in Naas, County Kildare. We meet at The Moat Theatre or via Zoom.

The Moat Writers used the months of Lock Down to compile their first anthology. The resulting book, called The Voices, was launched in The Moat Theatre by renowned Kildare author John MacKenna.

The Voices is a collection of work written since the formation of the group in November 2019. The writers, frequent guests with Clem Ryan on KFM, have selected their personal favourites — short stories to intrigue and grip, poems and verses to make the reader laugh and cry, and proses pieces for reflection and meditation.
